Why this training

What engagement fixes

01

Disconnected students

Engagement builds motivation and participation, so students who had checked out come back.

02

Short attention

Randomization, storytelling, and attention-grabbers keep students in the lesson.

03

Forgotten lessons

Content tied to students' lives stays with them longer.

04

Test anxiety

Students who practice under pressure through dynamic tension strategies become more resilient.

Research

"Focusing on students' social-emotional development had the largest contribution to the effectiveness of classroom management strategies."

Korpershoek et al. (2016). Review of Educational Research, Vol. 86, No. 3.
The five pillars

Five pillars in one day

Each pillar is taught, modeled, and practiced, and teachers use them in the next class period.

Pillar One

Promoting positive feelings

Students learn from people they like. Teachers practice bringing more of themselves into the room, asking for student feedback, and making lessons feel personal.

Pillar Two

Promoting attention and interest

How do you compete with a phone? With randomization, good questions, and stories. Teachers practice all three.

Pillar Three

Promoting connectedness and relevance

If students cannot connect it, they will not keep it. This pillar gives teachers ways to tie key concepts to students' own experience.

Pillar Four

Promoting self-efficacy

Resilient learners handle tests better than anxious ones. This pillar uses dynamic tension strategies to build that resilience, along with reflective practice for students and teachers.

Pillar Five

Sharing best practices

What would happen if every teacher's best lesson was available to the whole team? The matrix method makes that practical.

Agenda

The engagement day, hour by hour

Half-day or full-day, in person on your campus, scheduled around your calendar.

Teachers start at 8:30 AM by connecting engagement strategies to motivation and learning, then move through the pillars, positive feelings, movement, randomization, and storytelling before 12:00 PM.

Lunch is from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Between 1:00 and 3:30 PM, teachers learn to make lessons meaningful and relevant, guide personal connections, use visual images in new ways, build self-efficacy, and prepare students to respond under pressure.
